George De Decker is a versatile visual artist, who prefers to make series of works. Each work stands alone, yet is also part of a whole. He chooses the titles, often literary and always quoted in the original language, of his series with the greatest care. They reveal his great affinity for poetry and literature. Besides paintings and musical compositions, he also makes sculptures, video and sound installations.

George De Decker (°1951 Asse, Belgium) is a visual artist and composer who lives and works in Sint-Katelijne-Waver. He studied piano, composition and art history at the Royal Conservatory in Antwerp and Brussels, electronic music at IPEM in Ghent and painting in Anderlecht. Besides solo work (mainly with sound tape) and works for a large symphonic orchestra and sound installations, he also composed music for film, television and theatre. As from 2008 his paintings have featured in many solo, duo and group exhibitions in Belgium and The Netherlands. De Decker also created large mixed media installation projects including 'Ørnen 1897' (2013), a gigantic wooden zeppelin installation in which he combined fine art, music and film and 'Le bruit de la pensée' (2014), permanent site-specific installation works for the prison complex in Leuze-en-Hainaut (BE) consisting of 4 sculptures, a large stained glass and 2 paintings. In 2016 he founded the music ensemble SP!TSBERGEN. His latest composition Wit in Wit Goldberg Variations Revisited (2019) is released on CD and in the near future it will be performed by pianist Geert Callaert in several concert halls.

George De Decker is een veelzijdige beeldende kunstenaar die liefst in reeksen werkt. Elk werk staat op zich en maakt ook deel uit van een geheel. De vaak literaire titels van zijn series, steeds geciteerd in de originele taal, kiest hij met de grootste zorg en verraden zijn grote affiniteit voor poëzie en literatuur. Behalve schilderijen en muziekcomposities maakt hij sculpturen, video- en geluidsinstallaties.

George De Decker (°1951, Asse, België) is een componist en kunstenaar die woont en werkt in Sint-Katelijne-Waver. Hij studeerde piano, compositie en kunstgeschiedenis aan de Koninklijke Conservatoria van Antwerpen en Brussel, electronische muziek aan IPEM te Gent, alsook schilderkunst in de Academie van Anderlecht. Naast zijn composities met zowel solistisch werk (meestal met klankband) als werken voor groot symfonisch orkest en klankinstallaties, componeerde hij ook muziek voor film, televisie en theater. Vanaf 2008 presenteert hij zijn schilderijen in verschillende solo-, duo- en groepstentoonstellingen in België en Nederland. De Decker realiseerde ook grote mixed media installaties waaronder 'Ørnen 1897' (2013), een gigantische houten zeppelin waarin hij beeldend werk, muziek en film combineert en 'Le bruit de la pensée' (2014), een permanente installatiereeks voor de gevangenis in Leuze-en-Hainaut (BE). In 2016 richtte hij zijn eigen muziekensemble SP!TSBERGEN op. In 2019 verscheen zijn compositie ‘Wit in Wit Goldberg Variations Revisited’ (2019) op CD, dat in de concertzalen wordt uitgevoerd door pianist Geert Callaert.

George De Decker est un artiste plasticien polyvalent dont le travail se traduit en séries. Chaque œuvre est unique, mais fait également partie d’un tout. Il choisit avec soin les titres, souvent littéraires et toujours dans leur langue originale, de ses séries, qui trahissent son immense affinité pour la poésie et la littérature. Outre des peintures et des compositions musicales, il crée aussi des sculptures et des installations vidéo et sonores.
CV en bref
Artiste et compositeur de musique, George De Decker vit et travaille à Wavre-Sainte-Catherine. Il a étudié le piano, la composition et l’histoire de l’art aux Conservatoires royaux d’Anvers et de Bruxelles, la musique électronique à l’IPEM à Gand et la peinture à l’Académie d’Anderlecht. Outre ses compositions musicales rassemblant à la fois des morceaux solos (en général avec une bande-son) et des œuvres pour de grands orchestres symphoniques et installations sonores, il est également à l’origine de bandes originales pour le cinéma, la télévision et le théâtre. À partir de 2008, il présente ses peintures lors de diverses expositions en solo, en duo et en groupe en Belgique et aux Pays-Bas. De Decker a également réalisé d’importantes installations, dont « Ørnen 1897 » (2013), un dirigeable géant en bois au sein duquel il combine œuvres plastiques, musicales et cinématographiques, et « Le bruit de la pensée » (2014), un ensemble d’installations permanentes pour la prison de Leuze-en-Hainaut. En 2016, il fonde son propre ensemble musical SP!TSBERGEN. En 2019, sa composition « Wit in wit », jouée par le pianiste Geert Callaert dans les salles de concert, est enregistrée sur CD.
